At SWM-Wood, we specialize in producing Thermowood® for a wide range of industries and timber companies.

We work with different types of wood including:

The timber we use as raw material is acquired from PEFC™ or FSC® certified suppliers.

Knotty species: Pine & Spruce (Fresh Knot Quality)

Clear species are: Frake, Ayous & Radiata Pine (3 or 4-side clear)

Thermowood® Process

The patented Thermowood® process involves heating wood material to a temperature of 180 – 220 °C while at the same time protecting it with clean water steam.

The steam protects the wood, but it also influences the chemical changes taking place in wood. The treatment involves using only heat and steam. Thermowood® is an eco-friendly option that’s completely free of harmful chemicals.

Three Phase Process:

High Temperature Drying
- Moisture Content is dried to 0%
Thermal Modification
- Temperatures up to 220 °C to modify wood
Cooling and Conditioning
- Temperature decreased and Moisture content increased to 4-7%

The final moisture content of thermally modified wood is 4–7%, and shrinkage is ~4% on the specified dimension. Orders are delivered in falling lengths from 2.7 to 5.7 m.

Where to use ThermoWood®?

Façade and cladding

Thermowood® is a beautiful and durable material for façades. Finnish pine and spruce are well suited for façade material of buildings. Our network of planing mills in Central Europe can produce façade material from Thermowood® that we supply.

When making façade material, we recommend either a fine-sawn surface or micro surface to be used. Depending on your application, the surface can be either treated or untreated once the material is mounted. However, keep in mind that untreated façades may quickly become lighter in colour and turn grey due to the impact of UV radiation.

Sauna and interior

Thermowood® is well suited for saunas and decoration. The focal benefits of Thermowood® in interior decoration include significantly improved dimensional stability, hygiene, moisture resistance, and a finished surface. The colour alteration caused by heat treatment creates a distinguished, hardwood-like appearance.

Yard and garden

The patio products of SWM-Wood are well-suited for impressive yard and garden construction.

Certificates authenticate the origin

KOMO® Certificate

Every product for a building or infrastructure sector that is provided under KOMO certification meets very strict quality requirements. Only when accredited, independent certification institutions repeatedly confirm that it meets all requirements is such a product permitted to carry the KOMO Quality Mark. Products with the KOMO Quality Mark last a long time and require less maintenance.

PEFC®

The proof of origin of wood certificate, PEFC®, guarantees the environmental friendliness of wood raw material for the entire production and delivery chain. PEFC™ certification is based on the control of an external, independent third party. The certificate which forest certification granted to us for sustainable forest management is based on three things:

Published requirements regarding forest management
Requirements related to the journey of certified wood raw material into wood products
Control of the fulfilment of the requirements and the stamp attached to the wood product
